Dorna Sports is delighted to announce a contract extension with PETRONAS as the exclusive fuel supplier to the Moto2™ and Moto3™ classes. The contract renewal begins in 2023 and will see the Malaysian giant continue supplying the intermediate and lightweight classes of Grand Prix racing.
The sport moves towards sustainable fuel in 2024 and PETRONAS will power Moto2™ and Moto3™ as this new era begins, becoming sustainable fuel partner of both. This new era of competition sees the FIM MotoGP™ World Championship continue to lead the way as racing laboratory, driving progress and innovation at the forefront of the world’s push towards a more sustainable future.
As well as supplying Moto2™ and Moto3™ with high-performance, high-quality fuel and powering both into a new, more sustainable era, this agreement also extends to track advertising, with the PETRONAS name set to retain visibility across the globe throughout the MotoGP™ season. The name will also take pride of place on the countdown signal boards on the grid for Moto2™ and Moto3™.
Datin Anita Azrina Abdul Aziz, Senior General Manager, Group Strategic Communications PETRONAS: “I am pleased that PETRONAS will continue to be the Exclusive Fuel Supplier to the Moto3 and Moto2 World Championship from 2023 onwards. Moving forward, the partnership will evolve and see PETRONAS work closer together with Dorna Sport and push towards making the championship more sustainable. For PETRONAS, we view Dorna’s call to reduce carbon emissions in MotoGP as key in unlocking new opportunities as we embark to redefine ourselves in the face of the energy transition. Beyond the commercial aspect, the extension of the agreement, and PETRONAS’ title sponsorship of the Malaysian Grand Prix, we also hope to contribute to the growth of the motorsports industry in Malaysia. This is the same reason why PETRONAS has continued to support grassroot Malaysian competitions over the past two decades and revive the wildcard programme.”
Carmelo Ezpeleta, DORNA CEO: “We’re very happy to extend our partnership with PETRONAS and especially so as our new era of sustainable fuel appears on the horizon. We are proud of the relationships we have built in the sport and to extend them into a new era, taking on new challenges together, speaks to the strength of a collaboration. We’re delighted to see PETRONAS power Moto2™ and Moto3™ into the future and to see one of the biggest names in motorsport continue in such a vital role.”
