Spanish rider Maria Herrera, born in Oropesa (Toledo), was the first female competitor to win a race in the FIM CEV Repsol series. She has made guest appearances in the Moto3™ World Championship as a wildcard at the Spanish rounds with the Junior Estrella Galicia 0,0 team, over the 2013 and 2014 seasons. In 2015 she embarked on a full season Grand Prix debut campaign, riding alongside compatriot Isaac Viñales in the Husqvarna Factory Laglisse team. Herrera was able to score nine points and produced some strong rides - such as in Phillip Island where she finished 11th, her best result of the year. For her 2016 campaign she ran the MH6 team and suffered some bad luck. For 2017, she moved to the new AGR Team Moto3™ effort before then moving to WorldSSP300 for 2018. She took a best result of fourth and number of top ten results - and in 2019 she moved to MotoE™ at the Angel Nieto Team for a different challenge. In her debut season with electric motorcycles, Herrera earned P5 in Misano for a season best, while she couldn’t quite match that result throughout 2020 and 2021, there were a series of stellar performances which offered promise coming into the 2022 World Cup. 10 points scoring rides and a best of P8 came for Herrera, who stays with Aspar for another year in 2023.
